Barn Restoration

Hay press barns once numbered in the hundreds up and down the Ohio River, but today there is only a single restored and publicly accessible one of its kind in the country. Hoge Lumber was a primary supplier of materials for this project.  The restoration was the feature attraction for the  Wyandotte Woods Nature Center’s annual heritage event Memorial Day Weekend.   It was the first actual public demonstration of the hay press machine of the 1800s. It is believed that no one alive has ever seen a hay press of this type operate, which makes it a fascinating relic of its time.

Hoge has been commissioned to assist with materials and installation assistance on other barn restorations as well.  Others include:

- Ellis Barn - Michigan

- Harrison/Crawford/Wyandotte Hay Press Barn – Indiana

- Prophetstown - Indiana

- Normandy Barn - Indiana

- Barn at Indiana State Fairgrounds

- White oak beams, timbers, boards- replacement parts for structural members, joists, flooring, stalls, feed bunks, etc. in numerous barns, locally and regionally.

Also, we saw other green hardwood parts to order:  replacement boards for utility trailer decks, side boards for trucks,  ramps, etc.
